The rise of longboard skating

goldWhile skateboarding has generally receiver greater attention as a sport over longboarding that does not mean it is not brilliant. While skateboarding is still an extremely popular sport, it has not seen the same growth in popularity that longboarding has over the last decade. The sport steps away from the tricks focused competitiveness that skateboard provides, and focuses more on speed and freedom, as well as the huge agility a longer board provides.

It is no surprise longboarding has seen such a popular increase in appeal, combining a fantastic exercise workout as well as plenty of fun to get you from point A to B. The joys of carving down a hill and weaving in and out of busy crowds, is hard to find in many other rival sports.

Furthermore the sport is extremely beginner friendly, with a rich community of people who have enjoyed the sport when it was in its early niche stages back in the 50’s to newcomers who have only recently started to board. The community is welcoming and helpful, and it is hard to find such a forthcoming group in sports.

Many skaters love to longboard as well, respecting the differences and appreciating the appeal, the sport is perfect for those who love to board in general. From surfing to snowboarding or just old-fashioned skating. There is no animosity between the two sports and the communities are often intertwined with a heavy focus on respect but most importantly fun and freedom.

Another huge appeal to the sport is the affordability in it. Competitive cyclers or snowboarders may need to invest significant money into purchasing gear before they can properly enjoy the benefits and even before they know whether the sport is for them. However with longboarding there is a wide range of affordable but quality boards that are perfectly suited for beginners. With the average board costing around $150, if it lasts 3 years you are only paying $50 a year. Whereas in other sports if you want to purchase new equipment it can range into the thousands.

One of the most popular models are pintail longboards. They provide a suitable shape ideal for cruising with a focus on the pintail shape preventing the wheels from coming into contact with the board itself. They are manufactured to provide ample foot space and are an ideal board type for beginners looking to get a good feel of the sport.

One of the most reputable companies who produce a wide range of designs are GoldCoast Skateboards. They have produced an amazingly designed range of high quality longboards that are cutting edge. With a track record of being fashionable and affordable, this company is perfect for amateurs and seasoned pros. One thing that often puts off new entrants to a sport is either the cost, or poor quality starter equipment. Luckily GoldCoast recognize the demand for high quality and affordable boards, and welcomes newcomers to the fantastic sport.
